Born two years after the end of World War II, Andrzej Sapowski was born in Łódź, Poland. Although not much has been written about his childhood, growing up in Poland during the 1950s had a significant influence on his writing. Sapkowski stated in an interview that the strong women featured in his writing are based on women he saw in his community.
